What is this?

Noigo, noigo, soy de palo, tengo oídos de pescado, better known as NoigoNoigo,
is my way of sharing design and music with friends.

For years, I’ve been putting together music compilations on cassettes, CDs, DVDs, and USB drives. But it was streaming platforms that made discovering new things easier—and sharing them just a link away.

NoigoNoigo is an experimental design project about music, featuring short write-ups on the artists and their songs to enrich the listening experience.

I’m no music expert, and this isn’t about curating some elite selection for the enlightened. These are just good songs—chosen with care, love, and dedication—with one simple goal: to stir something in you when you listen.

Why that name?

In Bogotá, Colombia, my hometown, when we were kids and didn’t want to listen to someone, we’d cover our ears and shout: no oigo, no oigo, soy de palo, tengo orejas de pescado* (which translates No hear, no hear, I’m made of wood, I’ve got fish ears”).

It’s kind of like what we do today when we settle for playing the same old songs over and over again—except now, we’re blocking out musical wonders from every genre and style before they even reach our ears.

And with seventy million songs waiting to be heard—just counting what streaming platforms offer these days—where does one even begin? I suggest starting here.

* It’s a popular phrase kids say playfully to pretend they’re not listening to something they don’t want to hear. It’s a fun way of saying “I’m not listening,” often while covering their ears.

Who is this?

Maldingo Bicho has a hard time staying still—so he draws, takes photos, listens to music, designs, jumps around, climbs walls… and picks the songs, writes the blurbs, and shapes what NoigoNoigo is all about.

Why three of everything?

NoigoNoigo shares three songs by three bands from three different genres, once a month (or that’s the goal, anyway).

If it were just one song, or several songs from the same band, or even multiple bands from the same genre, you might like it—or not.

But if I offer you three completely different sounds, chances are you’ll connect with at least one of them. If you like two, I’ve gotten lucky. And if you like all three—well, that’ll make my day.

The time between editions is a bit irregular (though I try to keep it monthly). It all depends on how long it takes to find a theme, pick the songs, write the blurbs, and complete the experimental design process.

On the use of images

NoigoNoigo is a non-profit design project aimed at commenting on, critiquing, and recommending music. To do so, it uses links that connect to YouTube and the streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music. The images that accompany the reviews are sourced from public domain websites, official band websites and social media, free stock photo platforms, and other media outlets also dedicated to covering music.

In every case, a link to the source is included, proper credit is given, and when applicable, the type of license is specified. Album covers—and in some cases, photographs of the band members—are combined with original text and design elements, and used solely to support the project and illustrate the music and artists being referenced. If you have any questions regarding the project and/or any referenced intellectual property, feel free to write to me at:
